[Unfortunately for the vampire, there's a blue-uniformed sailor soldier waiting right in its path, ice sword already drawn and ready.

A child. If she attacks outright...

So instead, Mercury's free hand opens up, and a misty fog spreads over the area. It doesn't seem to hamper her at all, and she hurries in, taking advantage of the confusion to try to pull the child away, lashing out at the vampire with elbow and knee.

Then she can be content leaving the creature to be taken down by the Hunt.]

[He could sense the Level E up ahead, it was just around the corner; close. Zero picked up his pace, but when he rounded the corner, he was met with a dense fog.]

Tch.

[A disgruntled sound passed his lips when he was forced to use his Hunter senses to seek out the vampire, yet it was his ears that picked up the creature first.

A clash. Struggle. Maniacal laughter---Zero grabbed a nearby rod, and dove into the fog, using his Hunter senses to strike the vampire away in the blur of the mist, giving the child's savior the opportunity to win the struggle over the child's possession.]

Damn it

[As soon as the child is safely out of range, Mercury turns sharply to face the fight.

That curse makes her alert and her first thought is that the vampire's escaped somehow. Her eyes narrow as she looks for it. The fog lifts to give the Hunter clear vision, too; the obscurity hadn't been for the battle's sake but for the shorter-term plan.[

[As soon as the fog lifted, silver eyes landed on the sailor scout. Human, but... different. He didn't have the chance to note more when the Level E suddenly rushed to the, it's maniacal laughter filling the air as it made for the child again, it's razor sharp talons ready to tear into the soft flesh. A desire it would never fulfill when Zero intercepted it with a swift kick, knocking it back before it could reach either the scout or the young girl.]

Don't you dare touch her again.

[He dropped the rod then, and pulled out Bloody Rose from the inside of his school uniform where it was chained to him at all times, and aimed the anti-vampire weapon at the Level E.]

[She'll be annoyed at that later - she doesn't need protecting. But right now, the battle is more important.

As soon as the Hunter aims his weapon, the senshi strikes with hers. Mercury slashes her sword against nothing, delivering a blast of energy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDxCjDuBVGg) strong enough to injure several normal people and drive them to the ground at once.

She keeps herself intentionally between the vampire and the child for now; the Hunter seems competent and there's no sense giving their foe an opportunity to snatch its prey after all by leaving the girl, especially when Mercury can still fight at this range.]

[The blast of energy caught both the Hunter and vampire off guard. The creature screamed, shaking violently as he fell to the ground.

Silver eyes shifted toward the scout. Humans didn't have powers like that, and she was human, or at least not a vampire, he would have known is she was.

With the creature withering in the street Zero walked to it's side, and put it out of its misery with a single shot to the heart. The anti-vampire weapon turning the monster to ashes within seconds.

After the deed was done, he put the gun away, and turned toward the scout.]

Is she okay?

[Not a vampire; an immortal soldier originally from planet Mercury.]

She's unharmed.

[Except for the shock of the situation, likely.]

You did pretty well taking him out. Tell me who the girl is?

[His eyes shifted toward the girl, softening as she stood shaking in fright from what she'd just witnessed.]

...

An innocent victim.

[He walked toward the young girl, crouching down in front of her.]

Are you okay?

[She continued to shake unsure of what to do or say, which left the Hunter with few options. He looked up at the Scout.]

Why did you help?

[So even she could 'save an innocent victim'.

Since when? The blood of innocent victims turned into monsters has been on her hands since the Death Busters arrived on Earth, with no power that could return those victims to normal instead.

She doesn't know anything about saving or protecting.]

Why did I help...?

[She turns away, looking at nothing in particular in the distance. It had just been her decision, her urge, a feeling that she didn't want to see a little girl, who'd done nothing, hurt if she didn't have to be.]

Maybe habit. Something like that.

[He pulled out a long chain-like necklace, and let it hang in front of the frightened child.]

Forget about the scary monster. [He said softly, as he used the Hunter charm to wipe away the memory of the creature from her mind, leaving nothing but a peaceful night. He watched her eyes grow opaque, before she fell asleep having had her memories erased successfully.

He would have preferred to wipe her memories when he was alone, but that meant keeping her in that frightened state for longer than necessary and Zero couldn't do that to her.]

[Once she fell asleep, he picked her up in his arms, and turned to the strange woman who'd come to help.]

Habit doesn't make you jump in front of a monster to save a child.

[A sleeping spell, huh? She's seen them in use enough to recognize the signs. Well, it was fairly harmless in the end if it was like the spells used in her world; and the girl probably needed the escape.]

Maybe I just wanted to do something unexpected today.

[She's brushing aside those inner doubts, but it's not far from the truth, either; always that need to stay ahead, be unpredictable, be impossible to pin down and hold.]

You aren't a Hunter.

[Of that he was sure.]

I'm a Soldier.

[A flick of her wrist presents her sword again, held low at her side.]

The Soldier of Water and Wisdom, Mercury.

[Water. So that was her attack. He hadn't been sure what kind of blast that was.]

I doubt a soldier of wisdom is part of that title.

[The sword attack had just been her energy channeled through the weapon. The fog, however, had been from her control of the water and moisture present.]

[Born... just like the vampire hunters.]

Where are you from?

[Because, he didn't for a second, believe she was from the Planet.]

Originally, planet Mercury. I was born there.

[He's free to not believe it. She still knows it for truth.]
