I thought this might be a fun way to get to know each other's characters before interacting with then IC-ly in the actual game. ;D

I'm not that foolish.

[She's lived the past years of her life having to prove herself to the Dark Kingdom, having to prove the strength of her hatred to the sailor senshi. Being talked down to will not make her happy. But as the subject shifts, she relents.]

I've read most of Shakespeare's known work, in English.

[She specifies this mostly to say she's truly familiar with Shakespeare rather than a translation; but of course the pride is there, too. For a non-native speaker, learning her way around older English had been a feat, but one worth undertaking.]

Stating the obvious?

Admirable. There's no true appreciation in reading it any other way.

[True to her word, the comments may irk her, but they do not seem to distract her from her purpose. She seems as sharp as ever as she makes her moves, setting up a strategy that won't become fully apparent for awhile - hopefully long enough to get them into a strong end game she can make a clean sweep of.]

[Dorothy makes her next move in silence, smirking. Well, this was certainly fun. She had no intention of winning. The game she had earlier played with herself had been a strategy for guaranteeing a stalemate. She simply wanted to see if she could get the same results against another human being.]

[She is a chess champion herself, after all. And this goes against what Ami clearly said she wanted; of course she remarks on it.]

[She's only against the idea of not competing, after all. She'd be quite happy to equally force Dorothy into a loss or a win. An extra challenge for both of them. Worth it, yes?]

[Oh she can tell - that Dorothy left that check open, that she's certainly not winning at that rate, that the most likely outcome from here is indeed a stalemate. It's just not clicking that this is, in fact, entirely what Dorothy wants.

Well, when in doubt... test. Ami moves away from the check instead of claiming it.]

[She makes another frustratingly non-committed move, refusing to protect her king.]

The best battles have no victors. In mutual defeat, the people learn not to repeat mistakes that lead to bloodshed.

There is no way to avoid bloodshed. Even if you say things like that, pieces have already been sacrificed here.

[She pauses before her next move, before even moving her hand to take a piece. She raises her head and scrutinizes the board.]

How familiar.

I didn't imply that bloodshed wouldn't be a necessity. Sacrifices MUST be made. The loss of a few outweighs the salvation of the many. In the loss, people will see just how hideous battle truly is and abandon it. With no possible victory, the game becomes undesirable and tedious. It ceases to be played.

You recognize it then? It's what I failed to put into action. Beautiful, isn't it?

Even though I'm like this, I would also prefer a true end to the battles.

But that's just a dream. You even just said it's something that failed in action. Chess is a good building block, but humans are different and don't always act according to expectation.

I was naïve.

While the ideal may not be reached, something close to it is attainable. Let's say one has to parry in a fencing match with the choice of attaining a flesh wound to the shoulder or being impaled. Anyone would know what would be preferable. Injury would be unavoidable but the degree would differ. Either way, the lesson would be learned. If you don't wish to be hurt, don't engage the enemy.

[Ami takes another moment of deliberation before making her move. A decisive victory when Dorothy is aiming for stalemate would still be impressive.]

[In dreams, she doesn't think to be as cautious about her identity; it was never as closely guarded in her world as some to begin with. Zoisite had known to target Venus as Aino Minako, and Kunzite had found Mizuno Ami when he wanted a senshi for his own.]

[Perhaps they have even more in common, as Dorothy called it misguided as well.

Ami's never counted the queen as highly as most chess players do; she's had Beryl and - if she needed more - certainly Princess Serenity for examples of how useless that great power can be. No, as she said, she loves her knights. However, she still doesn't want to give up such a strong support, and after carefully checking for traps, she takes her queen out of the danger.]

So-called hearts are what destroyed everything once. I don't rely on them.

[Ami is lying, of course. No, rather, she means what she says - but she's still making all those choices emotionally even at the same time she says she distrusts emotion.

She is certainly telling the truth about the destruction. The feelings of anger and hatred, carried by the princess when the prince died, were what transmitted themselves to the ginzuishou and carried out the princess' wish for everything to be destroyed.

She moves out of check; it's not as if she'll willingly just lose.]

Don't rely on them or simply don't possess one? I'm asking in earnest as someone with similar thoughts on the matter. He used his to nearly destroy me. Causing tears to fall is more of a blow than drawing blood.

[And now the darting begins. She's going to chase that king throughout the board until her own king is similarly compromised in retaliation.]

They'd be awesome friends. xD And I haven't seen PGSM but doesn't DarkMercury have a sword? Fencing!

She does! She makes it from an icicle in her first scene and whaps the girls with it but good XD

Yeah, Dorothy likes skewering people (particularly Gundam pilots) so...w00t, tag team. xD

Fell misses skewering senshi. D: But she's up for training matches sometime! XD

As long as she's better than Quatre. Heero let her win until she frustrated him enough. ;D

In canon she knocks the others to the ground unable to get up right away in one hit. That work? XD

Yeah, that'll do. ;D She has a gun anyway. Lousy cheat. :p

So's Fell. She used the sword to channel her dark energy to do it. XD

hey, I ship Kunzite/Darkury like burning. short version: power couple and highly abusive :|

She's the abusive one in this dynamic with the stabbing and so on. xD But meh, we MUST make it work.

Kunz is... horrible. But he's also the one noticing her when she felt abandoned. hello Stockholm.

Eep... Not healthy but hey, sexy is sexy and evil is sexy. Q is just...too friendly. x_X

But Q is <3! and yeah, I love exploring how messed up Kunzury is, so it works for me XD

Yeah, he is. xD Meh, he'll break her eventually. Messed-up pairings are fun. <3

Ami's shippable with Nephrite, too, but it's sweeter and 'love redeems'/mutual lonely understanding.

The only other ship for D is Relena and yeah...no. xD Sweet can be good. :3
